Tropico 4 Announced for PC and Possibly Consoles
Date: 13 August 2010
The newest game in the strategy/simulation series will, like Tropico 3 and its expansion, be developed by Bulgarian developer Haemimont. Kalypso promises a new campaign with 20 missions on 10 new maps; 20 new buildings such as the stock exchange, shopping mall, and aqua park; and six new disasters like volcanoes, tornadoes, and droughts. You'll also be able to appoint citizens to the Council of Ministers who can then help to pass any controversial decisions you make. Facebook and Twitter integration will be included as well, allowing you to tweet from within the game and set up automated notifications for when you unlock Achievements or finish missions.
Only a PC version has been announced at this time, along with a release date of Q2 2011. The press release does note, however, that "news on a possible console version of Tropico 4 will be made available soon." Tropico 3 was released on Xbox 360 as well as PC (albeit about four months later on 360), so look for at least a 360 version to be revealed at some point "soon."
After the release of one expansion pack, Kalypso Media and Haemimont Games are ready to move on from Tropico 3 to a wholly new Tropico game: Tropico 4. You'll again take up the role of dictator El Presidente as you rule over the island of Tropico.
